MADISON TWP. — A new restaurant, 223 Grill & Chill, is now open at the corner of U.S. 223 and Treat Highway and serving a wide variety of Mediterranean and American foods. Owner Hassan El Khechen opened the restaurant on June 15 for dine-in, takeout, delivery and catering services.

El Khechen visited the Adrian area before he made the decision to open 223 Grill & Chill.

“I came, I checked the area, and I liked the area,” he said.

When he found that the location was available, he started working toward opening the restaurant, which is at 2275 West U.S. 223 in Adrian, in the Ridi’s (Marathon) gas station plaza.

223 Grill & Chill offers appetizers, salads, sandwiches, gyro sandwiches, wraps, subs, burgers, chicken and wings, side items, bowls, seafood, entrees, a kids’ menu and desserts.

“Everything is from scratch,” El Khechen said. “Everything is fresh and clean.”

Specialty Mediterranean items include a fattoush salad; tawook, which is yogurt-marinated chicken; sujuk, a spicy sausage; and fried kibbeh, made from finely ground meat, bulgur wheat and warm spices. Other items include spinach pie, veggie grape leaves and baklava.

In additional to traditional appetizers, the menu also includes hummus and cheese pie. Salads include Greek salad and a Gyro salad that can be made with Gyro meat, mixed meat or chicken. Sandwiches include chicken shawarma, made with slow-roasted seasoned meat served with toppings on pita or flatbread.

Gyro sandwiches include a Philly gyro. Mac and cheese wraps are also available, as well as seven types of sub sandwiches. Burgers come in a classic burger style, a smash burger or special burgers featuring sujuk, shrimp or a fried egg turkey bacon burger.

Desserts include cheesecake, carrot cake, chocolate cake and baklava.

The restaurant is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. The menu can be found at 223grillandchills.com. More information is also available by calling 517-800-5445 or by emailing [email protected].
