HUDSON — Hudson athletic director Jeremy Beal understands the impact Scott Marry has on the student-athletes and the community. 

Marry “has meant so much to the Hudson community for the past 30 years,” Beal said. 

“Coach Marry has obviously had tremendous success with the wrestling program, but his contributions to the culture of our athletic department and community are immeasurable,” Beal added.

Now, the rest of the nation knows the impact that Marry commands in his community. 

Marry received the 2026 National High School Athletic Coaches Association Wrestling Coach of the Year title on July 1 in Coralville, Iowa, 10 minutes from Carver-Hawkeye Arena on the University of Iowa campus. 

“I give all glory to God, my wife Paula, family, parents Delmer and Peggy Marry, staff, community, and Hudson Wrestling Club,” Marry said.

Mark Holdren, the Michigan High School Coaches Association wrestling representative, nominated Marry in February. He was one of 11 Michigan coaches representing different sports nominated for the national award.

“To be recognized by others outside our community for the years of service means people genuinely respect hard work and dedication,” Marry said.

“This award represents a lot of hard work by many people and many wrestlers,” said Marry, who became the all-time winningest coach in Michigan at the Division 4 team state meet with 893 wins. “Our program has the privilege to work with the best of the best around these parts,” he continued.

Marry became a member of the Michigan chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in May, when he also received a Lifetime Service Award.

“Ever since I have known him, he has worked tirelessly to advance and improve the Hudson wrestling program,” Beal said.

“We have some very good wrestlers coming up through the program and the right coaching staff in place, so hopefully that bodes well for the continued success of the program,” Beal added.

Marry felt the national award revived him, and now, he is determined, along with his staff, to make the program even better.

“I have a vision for this program to continue to grow, and I have no intention of slowing down,” Marry said. “In fact, this summer we have worked harder than any summer, and we invite all to join in. Our offseason has been awesome, and I’m fired up for this upcoming season, and the community is fired up as well.”
