BLISSFIELD — The Blissfield Model Railroad Club will hold the first open house of its 28th season on Sept. 19 and 20. The hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both days. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

The Blissfield Model Railroad Club has a 30-foot by 80-foot HO-scale model railroad that models the Chesapeake & Ohio and Clinchfield Railroads in Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, and Tennessee in the 1955-65 era.  The scenery represents the Ohio Valley and Appalachian Mountains.

The layout has over 3,300 feet of main line and an equal length of siding and yard track. The club’s open houses are a chance to watch as club members operate their favorite railroad freight and passenger trains of years past or, in some cases, trains that closely resemble trains that can be seen on full scale railroads today. During the Christmas holidays, a special Canadian Pacific Holiday Train with operating holiday lights is added to the operating fleet.

The club’s open houses are a chance to both see the model railroad in operation and learn about the history of railroads in the United States.

The Blissfield Model Railroad Club is located at 109 E. Adrian St. (U.S. 223) in Blissfield. Parking is available both in front of and behind the building. The entire installation is on the ground floor and the building is handicap-accessible.
