
ADRIAN — The Lenawee County Branch of the NAACP will host its annual Juneteenth celebration on Friday, June 19, from 4-9 p.m. in downtown Adrian.
The event will bring the community together for an evening of entertainment, activities, and celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States and honoring African American history, culture, and freedom.
“Juneteenth is a time to reflect on our history, celebrate progress, and come together as a community,” said Jeanette Henagan, president of the NAACP of Lenawee.
“We’re excited to once again host this celebration in downtown Adrian and welcome families from across the region to join us.”
The celebration will feature live entertainment throughout the evening, beginning with a variety show presented by the Boys and Girls Club of Lenawee from 4-5 p.m.
Toledo-based R&B and funk band Distant Cousinz will headline the evening with a live performance from 5-9 p.m.
Additional activities planned for the event include a youth 3-on-3 basketball tournament, bounce house, and face painting for children and families to enjoy throughout the evening.
The 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament will take place Friday, June 19 at the Crossroads Community Church parking lot, 119 N. Broad St. Registration begins at 11 a.m. with tip-off at noon. The tournament will feature three divisions: 6th-7th grade, 8th-9th grade, and 10th-12th grade. The cost is $10 per player with up to four players per team.
