ADRIAN — The Adrian City Commission has approved listing the property at 411 S. Main St., known as the Fee House, for sale.
The house was originally the home of local couple Harry and Harriet Kimball Fee, for whom the park directly across the street was named. Harry Fee was the creator of Hidden Lake Gardens, and Harriet, upon her death, created an endowment to fund the beautification and upkeep of Adrian’s city parks.
The house was bequeathed to the city upon the death of its most recent owner. The estate paid for a new roof before turning the property over, and then city staff did a great deal of work to prepare it for sale.
An appraisal in September 2024 estimated the property’s value at about $220,000.
Foundation Realty will represent the city in the sale. Any buyer will be required to agree to the following deed restrictions:
- The exterior paint color must remain the same or substantially similar.
- The home must remain 100 percent owner-occupied.
- It can only be used for a single-family residence and cannot be subdivided into multiple residences.
- The existing house cannot be demolished.
- No additional residential structures may be built on the site.
