BLISSFIELD — If you have an ancestor who wore Union Blue in the Civil War, or if you have an interest in preserving the memory of those who did, you can qualify for membership in the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, commonly referred to as “The Sons.” 

The organization is inviting new members to join in their mission to perpetuate the memory of the Grand Army of the Republic and those who served to save the Union during the Civil War from 1861 to 1865.

The Sons assist in the preservation of documents and records pertaining to the Grand Army of the Republic, and in making those documents available for research. They strive to honor all who have served the United States in any war, and to teach patriotism and the duties of citizenship, the history of the U.S., and the love and honor of its flag.

Anyone interested in helping with this work is invited to become one of “The Sons” by aligning with the Nash-Hodges Camp, which is the local chapter of Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. This Camp serves members in both Lenawee and Monroe counties. 

The group meets monthly, alternating between the Blissfield Depot Museum and the Tecumseh Historical Museum.
