ADRIAN — A troublesome section of sidewalk at the corner of Maumee and McVicar streets on the east side of Adrian was a topic of discussion at last week’s city commission meeting.
The subject was raised by Adrian resident Gail Dunaway during the public comment portion of the meeting, who said that after the city’s work on East Maumee, there is still no sidewalk on the northwest corner of Maumee and McVicar.
“This is not ADA-compliant,” Dunaway said. “Let’s get it fixed.”
Lynne Punnett, who works nearby, said that a man recently fell at that corner because of the unfinished work.
“This corner is critical. We have to get this fixed,” she said.
“It’s November now and we can’t go any longer without that corner being completed and having proper ramps,” she added. “It broke my heart when that man fell last week and I had to help him up, so we’ve got to take care of that corner.”
Mayor Angie Sword Heath agreed with the concerns and asked city administrator Greg Elliott if he could provide any information about delays in sidewalk work.
“We’ve just been waiting on our concrete contractor to do their work for this year, which includes a lot of these things, and they’ve kept delaying for one reason or another,” Elliott said.
“There is a slew of concrete work that’s still remaining to be done in this construction season.”
