ADRIAN — In an effort to help students in need successfully return to school, Gleaner Life Insurance Society’s Legacy Arbor service group recently donated more than $1,500 of school supplies and funding.

Angela Pooley of Adrian Public Schools’ Families in Transition program said more than 200 students in her group are typically assisted each year. In addition to helping students facing housing insecurity, the donated school supplies benefit any student in need. “There are so many kids who fall through the cracks,” she said.

Items were donated at Gleaner Life’s headquarters by employees as well as the public. Supplies valued at about $700 included hygiene products and hooded sweatshirts, as well as classroom materials. A check for $520 represented cash donations, plus $300 in gift cards to restaurants where students can use Wi-Fi. This was the sixth year the Gleaner group has organized the school supply drive.
