Local libraries will host Michigan authors in these upcoming talks:
Aram Mrjoian — “Waterline: A Novel”
“Waterline” follows an Armenian-American family as they confront grief, inherited trauma, and the enduring impact of history across generations. Outside Detroit on the island of Gross Ile, the Kurkjian family receives news that Mari, the eldest of their youngest generation, has swum into the depths of Lake Michigan with no intent of returning to shore. The consequences of his suicide drag out a deeply rooted pain passed down from generations before. The author, who teches creative writing at the University of Michigan, explores the complex beauty of diaspora, the weight of inherited trauma, and the echoes of the Armenian Genocide on contemporary Armenian life.

Cheryl L. Neely — “No Human Involved: The Serial Murder of Black Women and Girls and the Deadly Cost of Police Indifference”
In this book, Cheryl L. Neely, a professor of sociology at Oakland Community College, examines the lives and deaths of Black women and girls whose murders were neglected by both police and media. She examines how although Black women are killed at a higher rate than any other group of women in the U.S., their deaths are often treated with less urgency. This book is a Library of Michigan 2026 Michigan Notable Books selection.

Rod Sadler — “Depraved Obsession: The Gripping True Story of Law Enforcement’s Hunt for a Sadistic Serial Killer”
Drawing on his three decades in law enforcement, Rod Sadler explores the investigation into one of southeast Michigan’s most disturbing serial killer cases, offering a firsthand perspective on the detectives, victims’ families, and the pursuit of justice. This book details the search for Ronald Lloyd Bailey, who assaulted several boys, killing two of them, in the 1970s and ’80s. Sadler is the author of several true crime narratives set in Michigan, including “Killing Women” and “Grim Paradise.”\
