ADRIAN — On July 23, local manufacturer Adrian Steel broke ground on its new expansion, the largest in the company’s history. 

Adrian Steel was founded in 1953 by Bob Westfall. It manufactures upfit equipment that is used to equip trucks and vans for use by skilled tradespeople as diverse as builders, plumbers, electricians, heating and cooling technicians, satellite dish installers, and locksmiths.

Current and former employees, families, and friends in the community were on hand for the groundbreaking, which marked the beginning of a $43.4 million, 112,000-square-foot expansion that, in addition to expanding the company’s capacity, is expected to add 40 jobs at the Adrian plant. The project is being aided by a $320,000 performance-based Michigan Business Development Program grant through the Michigan Economic Development Corp.
