Planning for the future can bring many questions. Where can you find helpful services? What programs are available in the community? The Coalition of Older Adult Services Providers through the support of the Lenawee County Department on Aging is bringing many answers together in one place at the Lenawee County Senior Resource Fair.
“This event brings many resources together in one place,” says committee member Tracy James, with WellWise Services. “People can learn about services and programs in our community.”
The fair will be held on Thursday, April 23, at the Adrian Senior Center, 327 Erie St., Adrian. The event will run from 9 a.m. to noon. Groups from health care, finance, social services, community programs, and local support agencies will be there to share information. This free event will offer a door prize drawing and a box lunch for participants.
Committee member Kara Dominque from Lenawee Medical Care Facility says, “By coming to the fair, people can learn how they, their friends, or their family members can get help and stay active in the community.” In past years, the fair has included banks and financial groups, parks and recreation programs, health care and home care services, therapy providers, fitness programs, housing options from independent living to long-term care, and support groups. Visitors can ask questions and talk with experts who work in these areas.
The Senior Resource Fair will take place on the same day as the Spring Health Check. The Health Check will be held across the parking lot at St. Mary’s Activity Center, 305 Division St. in Adrian. It will run from 8 a.m. to noon. Participants can receive a 22-point blood panel, vitamin D screening, and a hemoglobin A1C test for a minimal fee. For the most accurate results, do not eat or drink for 12 hours before the test. Other services include adult immunizations, blood pressure checks, nutrition counseling, and medication counseling. This event is offered by ProMedica Hickman Hospital and the United Way of Monroe and Lenawee Counties. For more information, call 517-264-6821.
Megan Porter, with Cambrian Assisted Living and a committee member, reminds the community, “Together, these two events offer support and information to help people plan for a safe, healthy, and active future.”
Whether you are planning for yourself, helping a loved one, or simply curious about what is available, these events offer a chance to learn, ask questions, and connect with local resources. Community members are encouraged to attend and discover the many ways Lenawee County supports healthy and active living.
