FRANKLIN TWP. — A Jackson man was pronounced dead after a rollover crash in Lenawee County, and sheriff’s deputies are investigating the circumstances after discovering that he appeared to have recently sustained gunshot wounds.

On Saturday, June 28 at 6:09 a.m., Lenawee County sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of Tipton Highway and Kemp Road in Franklin Township for a report of a single vehicle rollover crash with a person trapped inside of the vehicle.

According to deputies, a 2004 silver Chevrolet Malibu was traveling northbound on Tipton Highway and lost control of the vehicle crossing the centerline and going airborne before rolling over.

The driver, a 22-year-old Jackson man, was the lone occupant of the vehicle and was trapped inside. Emergency personnel on the scene were able to remove him, and he was transported to the local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Deputies at the scene were advised by hospital emergency personnel that the driver sustained gunshot wounds to his leg and arm that appeared to be very recent. Detectives at the scene were able to determine that no shooting took place inside of the vehicle.

The sheriff’s office is investigating what led up to the crash, and they are focusing on the area around the fairgrounds prior to 6 a.m. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Dan Hiscock at 517-263-0524.
