Sheriff’s office investigates report of accidental shooting

MEDINA TWP. — The Lenawee County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a report of an accidental shooting in Medina Township.

On Sunday, December 17 at around 9:52 p.m., Lenawee County 911 received a call from a 19-year-old male who told the dispatcher that he had accidentally shot his 16-year-old girlfriend. Sheriff’s deputies along with EMS responded to the 13000 block of Packard Road in Medina Township and made contact with the victim, confirming that she had sustained a gunshot wound to the wrist and abdomen.

The Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau was called to investigate the shooting. According to a press release from Sheriff Troy Bevier, all indications at this point are that the two were preparing to clean a .22 caliber rifle when it accidentally discharged. Morenci Fire and EMS responded and requested ProMedica Life Flight, which transported the girl to a Toledo Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The incident remains under investigation.
