ADRIAN — It’s both a community event and a family one: the Adrian Symphony Orchestra’s annual Christmas concert, “Ho-Ho-Holidays,” which will take place Dec. 9 at Adrian College’s Dawson Auditorium.

ASO music director Bruce Anthony Kiesling said the symphony pulls in a variety of soloists and local choral groups for the concert.

“Every year we try to involve lots of choirs and soloists as well as our great orchestra musicians,” he said.

This year’s concert will feature the Clinton Honors Youth Chorus, who will perform “My Christmas Tree” from the movie “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York,” and the Adrian High School Balladiers.

The soloists will be Jonathon LaBelle from Siena Heights University and LaVonte Heard, a singer and educator who was part of last year’s concert.

“He was here last year and sang ‘O Holy Night,’ and he brought the house down,” Kiesling said.

The 65-piece orchestra will be under the baton of guest conductor Steven Jarvi, music director of the Dearborn Symphony and principal pops conductor of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra. The musicians will perform a mix of older classical pieces and newer tunes, including selections from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite and music from the film “The Polar Express.”

“It’s a little bit of everything,” Kiesling said.

The audience will also be invited to sing along for part of the concert.

“It’s really everybody’s favorite part,” Kiesling said. “You get to sing some of your favorites with a big orchestra.”

The ASO always makes sure to keep the holiday concert under 90 minutes, with no intermission.

“We want families to be able to come and bring young children,” Kiesling said.

The concert is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, in Dawson Auditorium on the campus of Adrian College. Tickets range from $23 to $37, with discounted rates of $23 to $35 for seniors and $12 to $19 for students. For more information, call 517-264-3121 or go to adriansymphony.org
