MACON TWP. — A 16-year-old from Macon Township led law enforcement on a chase through parts of Lenawee and Monroe counties on Wednesday night.
According to the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy, on patrol in the area of M-50 and Billmyer Highway around 10:41 p.m., saw an SUV speeding and driving recklessly, headed east on M-50. When the deputy attempted to stop the SUV, the driver turned off the vehicle’s lights and fled, going down numerous roads in Ridgeway and Macon townships
Sheriff’s department personnel attempted to end the pursuit by deploying stop sticks in the area of Holloway Road and Britton Highway. As the strips were being set out, according to the sheriff’s office, the driver avoided the strips, turned off his headlights, and left the road headed at the assisting deputy, at which point that deputy fired two shots at the vehicle, striking it.
The pursuit continued into Monroe County, at which point the driver stopped and surrendered to deputies. The suspect was lodged at the Maurice Spear Campus. The deputy who fired at the vehicle is on administrative leave pending an investigation.
