MORENCI — You don’t have to drive four hours north to walk across a five-mile bridge this Labor Day. Instead, you can join the Kiwanis Club of Morenci for a 25-second stroll across the southernmost bridge in Michigan.

The 32nd annual Silver Creek Bridge Walk will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, September 7, on the historic truss bridge at the Michigan-Ohio border in Morenci. This fun, tongue-in-cheek tradition offers a lighthearted alternative to the Mackinac Bridge Walk, bringing neighbors and visitors together to celebrate community and kick off the holiday.

This year, Kiwanis is partnering with Morenci American Legion Post 368 and will honor the 250th anniversary of the United States. The event will include public speakers, patriotic trivia and prizes, the traditional short walk across the 81-foot pedestrian bridge, and a free hot dog lunch provided by the Kiwanis Club.

Community members, representatives of local organizations, and elected officials are invited to take part in the open mic. Speakers may sign up at the event, and remarks are limited to one minute; short and sweet, just like the bridge walk.

Immediately following the walk, the Kiwanis Club will hold its Golf Ball Drop Fundraiser Raffle. A total of 150 golf balls will be sold for $20 each. The first-place winner will receive $500, second place will receive $250, and third place will receive $100. Participants do not need to be present to win. All proceeds from the raffle support Kiwanis of Morenci’s mission to serve youth in the community.
